Central Kitsap Fire & Rescue

Fire Inspections

By Roger Nordlander, CKFR Fire Inspector

Central Kitsap Fire & Rescue performs business fire inspections as part of our public safety program. At the heart of any fire inspection is the fire code. The fire code is the result of analyzing thousands of fires throughout the nation and identifying their cause and how they could have been prevented. The result of this ongoing analysis is the International Fire Code which is currently adopted in Washington State.

Central Kitsap Fire & Rescue inspects businesses and public buildings in Central Kitsap County. The goal of these inspections is to identify potential fire hazards and correct them before they become a problem. By being proactive in identifying fire hazards we can reduce and eliminate fires and the potential property and financial loss they bring. This results in a safer and healthier community in which to live, work and shop and reduces costly insurance premiums.

Central Kitsap Fire & Rescue employs three certified fire inspectors. Their goal is to perform efficient fire inspections and eliminate troublesome fire hazards that impede safety. Fire inspectors will meet with the business owner or manager and walk through the facility with them to educate managers and employees on how to reduce these hazards. A written report is always provided to the business to identify specific corrections that are needed.

One of the primary areas of concern in commercial buildings are the fire protection systems. Examples include fire alarms, fire sprinklers, kitchen range hood systems and portable fire extinguishers. All of these important fire safety systems need regular maintenance to ensure they work when they are needed. These fire protection systems act as silent sentries to protect a building and occupants 24-hours a day.

Central Kitsap Fire & Rescue also performs voluntary home fire safety inspections when requested by the homeowner. The home fire safety inspection blends fire inspections with public education so that homeowners can improve the safety of their home. Because house fires are a leading cause of property loss we are happy to offer this important public service.

It is through these and other public safety programs that Central Kitsap Fire & Rescue improves the quality of life to its citizens and visitors. If you would like fire safety information or wish to schedule hands-on fire extinguisher training please call us at 360.447.3550.

Central Kitsap Fire & Rescue would like to thank the Central Kitsap business community for their efforts and cooperation in assisting us to make Central Kitsap County one of the safest communities in Washington State.
