Central Kitsap Fire & Rescue

Volunteer Resident Program

Central Kitsap Fire and Rescue offers a Volunteer Resident Program. The object is to provide individuals with vital firsthand experience while providing emergency medical service and fire protection to the public.

Volunteer Residents live at a fire station (they are provided a private room) and are expected to assist in fire suppression, medical aid and other emergency situations. The Resident is also responsible for maintenance tasks assigned to them.

A basic requirement to becoming a Volunteer Resident is that you must be firefighter qualified equal to the Kitsap County Recruit Academy with at least six months recent experience, one-year preferred. Interested individuals are requested to fill out a Central Kitsap Fire and Rescue application, submit a personal resume, and Supplemental Questionnaire to Central Kitsap Fire and Rescue Assistant Chief of Operations. A Resident Oral Board will interview all eligible applicants. Appointments are made solely on the basis of merit, efficiency and fitness.

Appointments are probationary for a period of twelve months. Evaluations are conducted by the station supervisor each month. Upon completion of the probationary period, the Resident will receive quarterly evaluations. Each Resident must reapply for residency on an annual basis.

Central Kitsap Fire and Rescue has two Volunteer Resident Stations. They are Station 64, located in the Chico area and Station 44, located in the Tracyton area. Volunteer Residents are an important asset to our fire department for providing emergency services within the community.
