Central Kitsap Fire & Rescue

Central Kitsap Medic One Foundation

The purpose of the Medic One Foundation, founded in 1996, is to provide supplemental support for the emergency medical services (EMS) performed by CKFR. While primary funding for such services is funded by property taxes, we have found that many needs or wants for medical equipment do not survive the annual budget. Such items eventually make its way to the Foundation for consideration of funding, with this list being updated annually.

The CK Medic One Foundation receives its funds primarily from tax-free donations from individual community members and businesses. Donations are tax deductible*, as the Foundation is a registered non-profit, tax exempt 501 (c) 3 organization with the IRS. Several members of CKFR also provide funding through a payroll deduction system recently approved by the Board of Fire Commissioners.

During 2009, your Foundation Board members are found working on their goals and objectives for 2009-10. Currently, they are focusing on donor recognition, and how best to honor those that help the Foundation toward the purchase of medical equipment for the fire district.

In October of 2009, the Foundation purchased and presented to the District a CO2 Oximeter, a device that measures carbon monoxide levels in both fire and EMS personnel, as well as potential victims of CO poisoning. This specific item cost several thousand dollars and could not have been accomplished if not for the generosity of its citizens and those employees of the District that contribute via payroll deduction. In addition, the Foundation continues to purchase and donate state of the art stethoscopes to the paramedics of the District, a tradition begun during its formative years (mid 1990's).

This past summer, we welcomed a new member to our Board of Directors in Christine Christoff, a local citizen and current manager of the Bremerton and Silverdale offices of Frontier Bank. Her business knowledge and connection to the business community will certainly prove to be an asset to the Board.

The Foundation continues to work collaboratively with CKFR to identify and prioritize equipment and resources that the Foundation may be able to provide to enhance the quality of service currently provided by the paramedics and EMT's of CKFR. We would like to thank all those that have contributed during the past year, and hope that one would consider the Foundation through obituary memorials, special occasions (such as birthdays, anniversaries', or "just because").

Your current Foundation is Chaired by retired Chief Dick West; former Fire Commissioner Ted Anderson; Dr. Mark Eisenberg; Ms. Sandra Stewart; and Ms. Christine Christoff. Anyone may contact the Foundation through CKFR's main desk at 360.447.3550, or email mediconefoundation@ckfr.org. The Foundation meets monthly at the CKFR administrative building.
