When do I need an outdoor burn permit? Due to the revision in our State laws, CKFR was affected with a major change that affected the burn boundaries in our serving area. The change created a NO BURN ZONE that includes all of Silverdale and much of the area to the East and Southeast towards Bremerton.
See Kitsap County's Burn Ban Interactive Map.
If you live within Central Kitsap Fire and Rescue boundaries which allows burning and you want to dispose of natural debris by burning it outdoors, you will need to obtain an Outdoor Burning Permit. All permits are now free and may be picked up at several CKFR fire stations. Please call 447-3550 to find out which location is closest to you. If you plan on burning debris collected from land clearing you will need to stop by the CKFR Administration Office at 5300 Newberry Hill Rd NW, Suite 101, in Silverdale to request a land clearing permit. Please note: burn permits do not allow you to burn in the NO BURN ZONE areas of Central Kitsap.

Background on changes to State burning regulations Many changes have taken place over the past several years with outdoor burning regulations in Kitsap County and Washington State. Many of these changes were the result of a new Outdoor Burning Rule (WAC 173-425) that was adopted by the Department of Ecology (DOE) on April 13, 2000. The revised Clean Air Act required that outdoor burning no longer be permitted in urban growth or high density areas after December 31, 2000.
In addition, this new law changed who would have the authority to issue the various types of Outdoor Burning Permits that are available in Washington State. In the past the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) had the authority to issue outdoor burning permits in their forest protection zones for almost every type of outdoor burning practice that was found in the State. With the new regulations they are only able to issue large reforestation permits for silvercultural burning. All land clearing and residential permits that were once issued by the DNR were either taken over by a Fire jurisdiction or those areas of the state became no burn zones. In Kitsap County all DNR areas have been taken over by the Fire Districts to issue Outdoor Burning Permits.
The CKFR areas affected by this are: Seabeck, Holly, Crosby, Camp Union, Lakes Tahuyeh, and Symington. These areas were under the DNR control for outdoor burn permits until June 30, 2001. On July 1, 2001 Central Kitsap Fire & Rescue took over full control of all Outdoor Burning Permits for Land Clearing burning.
